About Ronya Banks
Mindfulness & Meditation Background
Ronya Banks, the founder and lead teacher of The Mindfulness Remedy, brings together the worlds of mindfulness, business, and personal development through her extensive background in multiple disciplines. Her breadth of training and experience springs from careers as a business owner, a mindfulness trainer, a leadership coach, a district manager, and a programmer with IBM.
This rich history gives Ronya unique insight into the recurring challenges faced daily by both businesses and individuals. As a result, she has been able to develop powerful mindfulness training programs that lift individuals and organizations out of stale “business as usual” ruts, allowing them to flourish to their full potential.
Mindfulness Teaching Experience
Ronya is the founder and lead teacher of both The Mindfulness Remedy and Asheville Insight Meditation, a thriving community of mindfulness practitioners, where she offers classes, workshops, and daily mindfulness meditation instruction. She has also provided mindfulness training to numerous organizations such as Care Partners and the Jubilee Community.
Ronya has practiced mindfulness meditation for almost thirty years. She has studied with world-renowned teachers such as Jack Kornfield, Tara Brach, Sharon Salzberg, Pat Coffey, Rodney Smith, Gina Sharp, and many others. She was ordained as a Buddhist nun, and she has attended over 30 intensive silent meditation retreats at centers such as the Insight Meditation Society and the Southern Dharma Retreat Center. She continues to deepen her practice through instruction from the Burmese Buddhist scholar, Bhante U Jotika Bhivamsa, and the Western Mindfulness teacher, Pat Coffey.
Business, Leadership, and Speaking Background
Ronya has been a successful business owner and operator of several businesses: Subway Restaurants, a martial arts studio, and a personal financial service. She currently heads both the Asheville Insight Meditation nonprofit organization and The Mindfulness Remedy.
Ronya has provided leadership and mindfulness coaching to CEOs, business owners, and others in managerial and leadership positions. Her mindfulness training and consulting programs breathe new energy and focus into leaders, allowing them increased clarity in decision-making, a strengthened connection with their workforce, and many other benefits at the fraction of the cost charged by other high-priced consultants.
Ronya also facilitates workshops for work groups and presents keynote addresses to organizations. Her charisma, gift for teaching, and sense of humor allow her to connect deeply with both workshop participants and audience members.
Ronya was born in Kuwait and moved to the United States as a young child. Her early experiences with discrimination based upon her country of origin have made her passionate about treating every individual she encounters as a valuable and loved member of the human race.
In her free time, Ronya teaches traditional Tae Kwon Do, in which she is a fourth-degree black belt instructor. She also serves as a hospice bedside volunteer.
One of Ronya’s most rewarding roles in life has been as the mother to two now-adult children, Vince Horn and Ashley Banks, and step-son, Ethan Morris. She currently resides in the beautiful city of Asheville, North Carolina.
